Natural Hair Masks : crash test

Bonjour guys ! I suck when it comes to hair dressing, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t care about how my hair look ( and it rhymes : care / hair… shame on me for the lame joke ). I have posted a video on my YouTube channel about my hair care routine : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1Et2FxQPSE

Since then, I went on holidays so they were damaged by the sun, the heat and the sea. There are many great hair products, but I wanted to provide them something natural. I was looking for natural masks, and I found many recipes, even too much. I’ve picked up two of them, depending on the ingredients I already had at home. They are both super easy to make, fast, simple, cheap and natural, but there is only one I actually found effective, while the other one disappointed me.

-The one I recommend :

You will need :

100g of plain yogurt, 2 tbsps of coconut oil ( melted ), 1 tbsp of lemon juice.

Poor the yogurt in a bowl, mix, then add the other ingredients, mix well.

It’s not very practical to apply because it’s quite liquid. The tool which is the most useful is a hair pencil, the kind hair dresser uses to apply coloration, especially on the roots. Not every one has this kind of tool, so you can do as I did : take the product in your hand then apply it. It’s not the best way, but it works too. Just do it above your sink if you don’t want to have it on the floor instead of your head.

You dip it in the mixture and apply it on your lengths and on the end of your hair. Avoid applying it on your roots, it would make them greasy. Leave it for 10 to 30 minutes and rince it very well. Then, do two shampoos to make sure that all of the food is gone. You don’t want to have some yogurt left in your hair right ?

My opinion :

I found it really efficient. Plain yogurt is supposed to moisturize, same thing for the coconut oil, and the lemon juice is to clean up the scalp. The only bad point is the smell of the plain yogurt, but it’s also because I hate the smell of everything made with dairy milk haha. My hair were actually hydrated and softer. You just need three ingredients, two can be found anywhere, as for the coconut oil mine is from the organic store.

-The one I don’t recommend :

You will need :

100g of plain yogurt, one egg yolk, 1 tbsp of honey, 1 tbsp of olive oil.

Instructions are the same here, but the result is not…

Why I didn’t like it :

It smells awful, not only because of the yogurt, the worse is the egg yolk, eurk !  It was like applying food which has expired. If at least it was an good mask, well it would have been ok to endure such a terrible scent, but it’s not. My hair were not more hydrated nor softer. They were even drier. Honey was a mess to take off, it kind of sticked my hair together. Even after 2 shampoos and a conditioner, I had the impression that my hair were still smelling yogurt and egg.

Of course depending on your hair result won’t be the same. Maybe that for you it would be the other way around and that the second mask will be very efficient. Unfortunately for me it was not, and since I want to be as transparent and honest as possible, I can’t recommend you things I don’t approve.

If you tried those masks at home let me know what you think of them. And if you have any other recipes of natural hair masks, don’t hesitate to leave a comment. I will talk to you very soon !

Bisous, Marion.
